About NFL Gauntlet

NFL Gauntlet is a daily NFL puzzle in five rounds. Each round is built on a ranked NFL list, players or teams ordered by a number from passing yards to wins, and asks you to name the three at the top, in order.

How to play

1. Read the round: what is ranked, over which seasons or team, and which way.
2. Type a name. Suggestions appear as you type. A right answer takes the next spot. A name that is not on the list costs a guess.
3. You have four guesses for three spots. If your first three are right, the fourth can still try to beat your weakest.

Scoring

Each name is scored on where it sits among the names still left on the list. The best one remaining always earns full marks, 33.3 points, and a name lower down still earns part of that. A round is out of 100 and a day out of 500. Names tied on the same number are worth the same.

Tips

• Read the qualifier closely. A list for one season, one team or one position is a different list from an all-time one.
• Career totals reward long careers, and single seasons reward peak years. Work out which one the round wants.
• Work down from the top. Answers in the right order score best.
• A name you know is on the list beats a blank. It still scores, and your next guess can go for the top.

Good to know

During the season, Tuesday's puzzle is the Week Challenge, built from the games just played. Everybody plays the same puzzle each day, new at midnight Eastern. Your first finished run is the one on the leaderboard, and past days stay playable in the archive.
