About History Gauntlet

History Gauntlet is one board a day: fifteen events from across history, shown in a jumble, from the ancient world to recent years. Drag them into order, oldest at the top.

How to play

1. Read the fifteen events.
2. Drag them into order, oldest first.
3. Submit when you are happy. The right order is shown beside yours.

Scoring

Each event in its right place earns 33.3 points, for a total out of 500. Every place it sits away from its spot costs it a fourteenth of that, so an event one place out still earns 31.

Tips

• Anchor the ends. Find the oldest and the newest first, and the board has a frame.
• Sort by era before you sort by year. Group the ancient, the medieval, the early modern and the recent, then order within each group.
• One stray event costs little. A wrong spot only nudges its neighbours one place each, so a guess beats leaving it to last.
• Take care at the recent end. Events from the last century are often closer together than they feel.

Good to know

A new board goes up every day at midnight Eastern, the same for everybody. Your first finished run goes on the leaderboard, and past boards stay playable in the archive.
