About Trivia Gauntlet
Trivia Gauntlet is a free trivia site built on numbers and rankings. Instead of multiple choice, you guess the number itself: a country's population, a quarterback's career touchdowns, the year something happened. Or you name the top of a ranked list in the right order. Close counts, and the nearer you get, the more you score.
The daily games
New puzzles go up every day at midnight Eastern, the same ones for everybody.
- The Gauntlet: four rounds a day, one each of Sports, Geography, Entertainment and History, and every round is five things to put in order.
- GeoGauntlet: ten rounds of naming the countries at the top of a ranking, by population, area, GDP per person and more. GeoGauntlet Mini is one round of it, about a minute long.
- GauntletGuesser: one country, revealed one clue at a time. The fewest guesses wins.
- The NFL, NBA, NHL, Entertainment and History Gauntlets: a new board every day. Name or pick the top three of a ranking, or put a whole board of events in order.
- The category dailies: ten number questions a day in Geography, Sports, the NFL, NBA, NHL, Entertainment, History, Athletics and Football.
- The Weekend Challenge: a hand-picked puzzle with a new theme every weekend.
Play as long as you like
- Unlimited: any category, ten fresh questions a round, as many rounds as you want.
- Higher or Lower: two subjects, one number hidden. Say whether it is higher or lower and see how long a run you can build.
- The modes: deeper games for fans. NFL Mode and QB Mode, NBA Mode, MLB Mode, Football Mode with club seasons and World Cup goalscorers, and Billboard Mode's number-one hits.
- Live rooms: play the same board at the same second as everybody else in the room, against the clock.
How scoring works
Most questions pay up to 15 points for how close your guess is. A guess within a tenth of the answer earns about 13, one a quarter out about 10, and one half out around 5 to 7. Year questions allow more room for events long ago, and race times are judged on a small share of the record itself.
The ranking games pay most for the best answer still left on the board. Naming the best answer still left is always worth full marks, whatever has already been named.
Scores, accounts and the Hall of Fame
Most games can be played as a guest, with nothing to sign up for. Signing in keeps your scores and stats, puts your first run at each daily puzzle on its leaderboard in the Hall of Fame, and lets you add friends and compare boards. Replays are welcome, but only your first finished run at a daily is ranked, so every score on a board means the same thing.
